Tariff Issues and Freer Trade
[ send me this paper ]
A 16 page paper examining whether the nation of Jordan
should further reduce trade tariffs in an effort to encourage greater international trade. Jordan
has worked for years to attract greater foreign investment, and it reduced trade tariffs as part
of satisfying requirements for admittance into the WTO. A recent survey shows that those
nations with highest per capita incomes and greatest economic freedom are those (Hong Kong,
Singapore and New Zealand) that maintain no tariffs at all. The paper recommends that Jordan
further reduce trade tariffs as a method of encouraging foreign investment and developing a
sustainable national economy. Includes 3 tables. Bibliography lists 20 sources.
