This is a 5 page paper that explores the ideologies that have guided US foreign policy. It begins with the impact of the mercantilism of England on the colonies and looks at the expansionist policies of a new nation. It examines the theory and the state of affairs that brought about Wilsonian Internationalism. Isolationism is a natural response to the ravages of war and was the policy of the government between the World Wars. The Allied Coalition and the League of Nations was the basis for a policy of Internationalism that preceded the Cold War. At the core of the current situation, the fact remains that both nations should seize the favorable opportunities in the current China-U.S. relations, work to expand the common interests of the two countries and the bilateral cooperation, give full play to the potential of the bilateral relations and build the constructive strategic partnership between China and the United States on a far more solid basis.
