It is compared in the paper to the style of Winthrop’s account of the hearings of Anne Hutchinson that eventually culminated in Mrs. Hutchinson being excommunicated from the church and exiled from the colony. Winthrop’s personal accounts were written by a man who was far too aware of his own shortcomings; his account of the Hutchinson proceedings were written by one with no shortcomings at all. Witchcraft and the Influences on Western Culture

In particular, this paper focuses first on the Salem Witch Trials, and then the Wiccan traditions, and how anti-Wiccan sentiments began first in Europe during the Crusades. This paper also considers modern versions of the witch trials, arguing that modern perspectives on the Wiccan traditions have created definable prejudices against modern day paganism.
