Both Views of St. John's Wort
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page paper discussing the view of this herb from
the perspective of the mainstream medical community and from that of alternative medicine
practitioners. The extract of this herb is widely used as an antidepressant as well as for
several external conditions. It is the most commonly used antidepressant in Germany,
where there have been several large clinical trials. The first of the US clinical trials are only
now ending, and US psychiatrists and others remain skeptical. Alternative medicine
practitioners examine the facts that are known and work around those which are not. The
paper concludes the alternative medicine community has made more effective use of the
information available to it. Bibliography lists 9 sources.
