Published in 1948, 'Seraph on the Suwanee' was the last novel written by Hurston, and was also one of her lesser-known. All of her works, however, included a measure of to-the-point sexuality, presented in the context of a matter-of-fact part of life rather than for any anticipated 'shock value.'
