“The Wild Swans”: A Discussion of Twentieth Century China as Seen Through the Book by Jung Chang

“Tiananmen Massacre”

A twenty four page paper which considers the events and implications of the uprising and massacre of Tiananmen Square in 1989 and the subsequent effect on China’s diplomatic relations with the US. The paper looks at the historical background to Tiananmen and the reasons why the dissident movement has led to greater rapport with Western nations than was the case in earlier alliances between China and the West. The changed perception of Deng Xioping’s government in the light of recent revelations regarding Tiananmen is also considered.
